FMS I: Reception
Readers and Media
In these projects, sociologists and literary scholars examine
the manner in which perceptions of science may be influenced by science
novels. They observe science in society through the
twice-refracting lens of the novelist and the reader or reviewer--at what we think
of as the third order of observation. These projects combine methods that are usually
associated with literary and cultural discourse
analysis, with those used by sociologists. They employ the critical and content analyses
conducted in the other FMS groups as an interpretive framework for their reception
analyses.
